aFe Stage II Air Intake

Improving the air flow, specifically the intake, of any engine is

important. The aFe kit incorporates an open-air-element filter,

which greatly reduces the restriction of air flow over the

stock air box and filter. In addition to more air entering the

engine, the open-air filter allows an easy visual inpection to

determine when it needs to be cleaned. The Stage II kit also

includes a full steel replacement battery tray. This tray

creates much more room around the left side battery by

eliminating all the stock plastic trim, which covered the battery.

It also includes a battery hold down bracket. This bracket

required some slight cutting and grinding to avoid rubbing

against the filter though.

There was a noticeable improvement in throttle response after

the filter was installed. There is also a distinct rushing air sound

during heavy throttle use. Starting the engine seems to be much

easier once the glow plugs have warmed up. The engine does not

struggle as much to turn over. This may be due to a combination

of the restrictive stock intake and the filter having been very

dirty. To complete the flow of air the engine desires, a new

exhaust and downpipe will be installed to help the engine breath

like it wants to.
