2003 Heated / Turn Signal Mirrors

After one long trip with snow and frost covered mirrors, I

realized how valuable heated mirrors would be. The 2002 mirrors

had power adjustment glass, but that was it. Then the 2003 models

came out with power glass, L.E.D. turn signals, L.E.D. marker

lights, and a heated main mirror. The mirrors simply bolt right to

the truck where the old ones were. Several additional wires must

be run to the mirrors to supply power for the heat and lights. The

heating element on the 2003 mirrors is designed to run constantly

when the engine is on. This seems like a lot of unnecessary wear

and tear on the heater. I am using a switch to control when the

heat is turned on and off.

Since the mirrors were off the truck and there was no hurry to

install them, I had them painted. In the process of taking them

apart, I realized it would be difficult for the painter to get the

areas around each of the mirrors. So the actual glass had to be

removed. This lead to also having the thin ring of plastic, which

surrounds the glass, painted. Even the plastic trim you see when

the mirrors are folded in was painted.
